The Case for Standards

Standards are a huge issue in the computational linguistics world. At CALICO and LREC some big discussions were made on standards, more so at CALICO. There was talk about standardizing XML schemas, or some format for something so everyone could read it. No one should have proprietary software, according to most people there.
